Dan Ashworth ready to swoop for record-breaking wonderkid in 2025, he’s perfect for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United are already making 2025 transfer plans and one addition could be from Sporting Lisbon.

Ruben Amorim turned several players into superstars for Sporting Lisbon, and it is little shock that Manchester United would be paying interest.

However, after the debacle that saw Erik ten Hag sign six former Ajax players, there should be a hesitance around signing players that the new head coach has previously worked with.

Despite this, if Ineos sign any former Sporting players it will be vastly different from this as it will be players who the club had wanted prior to Amorim’s arrival – as the head coach has less say in transfers while Dan Ashworth will be making all the decisions.

Now it is being reported that United are expected to make a 2025 swoop for one player Amorim developed into a star with Sporting.

Manchester United expected to make Geovany Quenda move

From Amorim’s title-winning Sporting side, there have been plenty of players linked to Old Trafford with Viktor Gyokeres among the most frequent. Additionally, Francisco Trincao has been linked with United.

However, it is Geovany Quenda who has now been in the news in conjunction with a United move once again. Quenda was linked to United before Amorim was even linked, while it has more recently been suggested that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would sanction a move.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, Sporting are braced for a United approach in 2025 over their record-breaking teenager – with Quenda the club’s youngest league scorer beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s record, and is also Sporting’s youngest player to start in the Champions League.

It was reported that the last success story under Amorim is now the subject of serious interest from United as Ineos had been watching Quenda’s progress since the start of the season.

Amorim would no doubt be delighted to see Quenda join him at United in the new year as it would be a tailormade option in the wing-back positions.

Ruben Amorim could replicate Quenda with Adam Lawrence’s star man

While signing a player like Quenda could be a game-changer for Amorim in this 3-4-3 system, the talented 17-year-old might cost as much as his £83m release clause – a figure which may be hard to justify considering the work needed in this squad.

Therefore, it may be that Amorim looks toward Adam Lawrence’s record-breaking U18 side for his solution.

Bendito Mantato is the name that stands out, with Mantato’s qualities lending themselves well to a wing-back role.

Mantato has been on fire for the U18s this season and despite being used as a right winger, he is used as a left-back for the England U18 side.

Quenda and Mantato share a few qualities and the United 16-year-old will see his chance as imminent under Amorim, especially if he continues impressing under Lawrence.
