Viktor Gyokeres was the star of Ruben Amorim’s Sporting Lisbon side.
Since moving to Portugal, the 26-year-old Swedish international has become one of the deadliest strikers in world football.
Already this season, Viktor Gyokeres has scored 23 goals in 18 games. Under Ruben Amorim, he has scored a total of 66 in 68.
Manchester United fans were blown away by Gyokeres after he scored a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Champions League in what was Amorim’s final home game with Sporting.
Since Amorim’s arrival at Carrington as the new head coach, United have been strongly linked with Gyokeres over a potential move in 2025.
The Times reports that Gyokeres has an agreement with Sporting that he can leave for £63 million in 2025.

Viktor Gyokeres joined Sporting because of Ruben Amorim
Amorim has taken Gyokeres to a new level. He was held in high regard after impressing with Coventry in the Championship, but under the Portuguese coach he has elevated to Europe’s elite.
United are hoping their new head coach can have a similar impact on the current squad at Carrington. Ineos are hopeful that Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund will “thrive” under Amorim.
However, with Amorim now leaving to move to Manchester it has left Gyokeres facing a big decision for his career in 2025.
When discussing Gyokeres’ future back in April, the striker’s agent told Record: “I would say that at this point it is also very important to know… what will happen with Ruben Amorim.
“Because we came here because of him. We have to know what Sporting’s plans are.”
We now know that Amorim has made the switch to United, and if Gyokeres was so desperate to work with him at Sporting, it suggests he may follow him to Manchester.
Viktor Gyokeres should be Man United’s priority next summer
Amorim has promised not to sign any Sporting players in January, and it seems he will have a very strict budget to work with anyway.
But that aligns perfectly with when Gyokeres is likely to leave Portugal. Sporting’s president confirmed Gyokeres is unlikely to leave in January. It leaves United with no option but to pursue him next summer.

Rasmus Hojlund can be a world-class talent in years to come, but he is too raw and inconsistent to lead the line permanently for United under Amorim.
As Amorim looks to teach his 3-4-3 system to his new squad, he could do with a reliable goalscorer to lead the way and Gyokeres is exactly that.
In modern-day football, a £63m fee for a striker of his calibre is a bargain. He would arrive at a cheaper fee than Hojlund and would add to United’s firepower significantly.
