Ruben Amorim looks set to become the new Manchester United manager, replacing Erik ten Hag in the dugout at Old Trafford.
It has been Ruben Amorim who has been the favourite to take charge since the initial news broke on Monday, with his arrival more a matter of when than if.
Since then, every Amorim press conference has been dominated by Manchester United questions,
With the latest seeing the 39-year-old reveal that his future will be made clear after Sporting Lisbon’s game on Friday.
Amorim is expected to take charge on November 11th, leaving Ruud van Nistelrooy three more games – after the success of Wednesday night he deserves it.
But looking back, there was one United figure who was instrumental in getting Amorim to Old Trafford.

Dan Ashworth deciding factor in Ruben Amorim appointment
Amorim is a very exciting appointment for Manchester United and one which signifies the ambitions Ineos have.
Arguably Europe’s best young coach, Amorim is the most exciting appointment Ineos could have made, bar none.
Transfer expert Graeme Bailey told United in Focus exclusively that the decision for Amorim to replace Ten Hag was exclusively down to Dan Ashworth.
“Ashworth was pushing for it, in that it was his decision overall. So obviously it came down to him, it was up to him all along so you would have to surmise that Amorim came out on top after his due diligence. He was clearly Ashworth’s favourite candidate.”
This comes as Amorim was chosen ahead of both Julian Nagelsmann and Thomas Frank to be the new head coach for United – but his role will differ to that of his predecessors.
Amorim will have a new role when he joins Manchester United
When Ten Hag arrived at Old Trafford over 24 months ago, he was the manager, and therefore given quite a deal of influence over the transfer business being done.
However, this will not be the case for Amorim – considering the new footballing structure is vastly superior to that of its predecessor.
“I imagine Amorim will be confirmed as head coach as well, he will have no say on who the priority transfers are.
“He will give his opinion but he will not be demanding ‘get me Viktor Gyokeres, get me Morten Hjulmand, get me, Marcus Edwards’.
“However Gyokeres and Hjulmand are already on United’s radar, as we know.”
This tells us that Ashworth will also be in almost full control of the transfer business as well as having the power in terms of managerial appointments.
