Paul Pogba put in one of his best ever Manchester United performances in the 2021/22 season opener against Leeds.

Pogba provided four assists in a 5-1 win for United. Last season Pogba only contributed three Premier League assists.

The display showed what Pogba is capable of and attracted widespread praise from supporters and his fellow footballers alike.

Pogba’s Instagram page was lit up by messages from his pals, current and former teammates.

One of those was France international teammate and Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann, who referred to Pogba as a quarterback.

There were numerous others. New United teammate Raphael Varane also responded to Pogba’s performance with praise, as did Victor Lindelof, who remarked, ‘what a player’.

Jadon Sancho, Alex Telles and Jesse Lingard also praised Pogba’s performance, as did his former Juventus teammate Paulo Dybala.

Pogba’s performance was praised by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the game.

Solskjaer told the club website: “I’ve had a great relationship with Paul ever since he was a kid. Today was just about ‘go out there and enjoy yourself’ because he had 45 minutes against Everton, which wasn’t his best.

“We gave him the freedom of roaming wherever you want to go and get on the ball. I can’t remember the last time that happened [getting four assists in a single game] but Paul’s got that quality and, when you’ve got runners willing to make runs and create space for others, it opens up.”

Pogba is getting the love and admiration he craves. United want him to sign a new contract and rightly so. Getting him to commit to a long term deal would be bigger than any other signing the club could make this summer, based on his performance on Saturday.
