Man Utd kicked off their pre-season tour with a 0-1 loss against Wrexham, where Andrey Santos made his debut.

The game started exactly like you’d hope, between two teams lacking fitness and preparation, as it was scrappy and stop-start.

Wrexham scored via a back-post cross to take the lead as Andrey Santos showed some nice touches, but that was it for the first half.

A young team came out for the second half as Michael Carrick made 11 changes, and despite the youngsters looking much better than expected, there was no other goal in this game.

Tom Heaton – 6

Good save from a chance eventually ruled out for offside. Helpless for the goal.

Leny Yoro – 5

Unfamiliar right-back role and played like it. Struggled to stick close to his man and wasteful in attack.

Harry Maguire – 7

Calm and confident at the back. Relished defending aerial balls.

Ayden Heaven – 7

Great recovery tackle in the first half. Confident with the ball to set attacks in motion.

Luke Shaw – 5

Absent at the back post for the goal. Fluffed one opportunity to cross in a rare overlap.

Andrey Santos – 7

Got caught on the ball once but didn’t get fazed. Always looked to pass forward and defended with discipline.

Jack Fletcher – 4

Loose touches, misplaced passes, and too easy to shrug off the ball. Needs to be better next time.

Bryan Mbeumo – 6

Thankless task with Yoro behind him. Tried to get United up the pitch with some nice touches.

Mason Mount – 7

Worked hard to plug gaps, linked up nicely with his teammates, and set the tone in both phases.

Patrick Dorgu – 5

Frustrating outing as he couldn’t use his athleticism to create openings for himself or his team.

Joshua Zirkzee – 5

The usual Zirkzee experience of nice touches with careless passages of play to cause frustration.

Substitutes

Radek Vitek – 7.5

Called into action a couple of times and looked like he belongs at this level.

Jaydan Kamason – 7

Some nice bombing runs down the right, albeit a bit suspect defensively.

Dan Armer – 7

Played some beautiful passes with his silky left foot. Could be a sneaky breakout contender.

Jacob Devaney – 7.5

Played out of his natural midfield position as he was stationed at centre-back. Did well, especially with the ball.

Harry Amass – 8

Raking runs on the overlap and working hard getting back in defence. The fruits of the successful loan last season were clearly visible. He’s ready.

Toby Collyer – 7.5

Surprised a lot as he’s added a lot of things to his game. From great pace to silky touches in tight areas, this was a good building block.

Tyler Fletcher – 7

Kept things ticking in a deeper role. Error-free.

Ethan Williams – 5

Struggled to get into the game as the attack largely flowed through Amass on the left and Lacey on the right.

Dan Gore – 7

Reminded Man Utd fans of his quality with a typical combative and technical midfield display.

Shea Lacey – 7

Had some nice combination plays with Kamason and Gore down the right.

Ethan Wheatley – 6

Played ahead of Obi and worked hard off the ball.
