Dan Gore will hope for better Man Utd pre-season outing vs Wrexham than he had in 2023

Manchester United academy graduate Dan Gore is in Helsinki with the first-team ahead of facing Wrexham, and this could bring back some negative memories for the 21-year-old.

One of the finest midfielders that Manchester United have produced in the past decade is Dan Gore, with injuries stunting his development over the past 30 months.

After some seasons of struggle, Gore was a revelation for Rotherham last season on loan and won their player of the year award for his brilliant midfield performances.

This has earned him a chance under Michael Carrick this summer for pre-season. Gore is in the squad to face Wrexham, but he’ll be eager to rid memories of the last time he faced the Welsh side for United.

What happened last time Dan Gore faced Wrexham

Playing against Wrexham in pre-season for United won’t be a new experience for Gore, because in July 2023, he did it as an 18-year-old.

Gore captained what was effectively a reserve side in San Diego against Wrexham, and he was one of the only players who looked up to the level.

United trailed at the break 2-1, and then in the 47th minute, Gore’s night game came to a crushing end as he was sent off with a straight red card by an overzealous referee.

On first glance the it looked like a horror tackle, and the Wrexham players surrounded Gore, pushing him needlessly, as a replay showed that it was probably actually a foul on Gore, as the Wrexham player stood on his foot.

But the red was already shown, and an emotional Gore exited the field with United going on to lose 3-1.

He will have revenge in his mind this weekend, wanting to put in a stellar performance against what is now Championship level instead of League Two.

A big performance for Gore would be huge for his chances at United going forward.

Man Utd predicted XI

Gore has a real chance to earn a Manchester United first-team spot this summer

While Gore had become something of a forgotten name due to his spells on loan, he was very impressive for Rotherham and returns to United this summer, ready to contribute.

He is incredibly competitive and will see that there is a gap in the midfield department with his name on it.

It will be one of Gore, Jacob Devaney, and Tyler Fletcher who step up and claim that position to rotate with the senior players in the coming campaign. We wouldn’t bet against Gore.

He is the most experienced, having already played for United with his debut almost three years ago, so he would be ready to step back into the ranks.

Gore has all the talent he needs to break through; he just needs the opportunity and to stay injury-free, which he managed for most of last season.

Fans should be really excited to see what Gore can do.
