Man Utd star Lisandro Martinez could now receive ‘rare’ World Cup prize if Argentina beat Spain in final

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez now has the chance to secure a unique World Cup prize if Argentina can retain their championship crown.

Lisandro Martinez has been a key player for Argentina at this summer’s tournament and played in all but one match at the World Cup in North America so far.

The 28-year-old Manchester United centre-back now has the chance to pick up a second World Cup winner’s medal if Argentina can overcome Spain in Sunday’s final.

Argentina, who won the World Cup in Qatar in 2022, punched their ticket to this summer’s final after their sensational 2-1 comeback win against England.

Lisandro Martinez could secure a ‘World Cup winner’s ring’ after Argentina and Spain’s final

World Cup title holders Argentina and Euro 2024 champions Spain will cross paths with one another at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday evening.

Spain booked their spot in the final of the FIFA tournament after La Furia Roja knocked World Cup favourites France out in the semi-finals in a 2-0 win.

According to BBC Sport, the World Cup will have an American-themed twist by handing out ‘winners’ rings’ to the team that comes out on top on Sunday.

FIFA plans to have 30 rings produced for the winning World Cup nation and a further 1,996 rings will be sold to fans amid the closing stages of the tournament.

BBC Sport reports that each ring has a mini-World Cup trophy etched in the overall design and an engraving is also included inside the band of the ring.

Man Utd and Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez is to cross paths with United States President Donald Trump at the World Cup

United States President Donald Trump is now expected to be at the World Cup final in East Rutherford, despite missing every other match at the tournament so far.

The 80-year-old was absent for the World Cup campaign of co-host nation the United States, who were knocked out in the quarter-finals at the hands of Belgium.

Donald Trump will present the World Cup trophy to the winner of Argentina and Spain, as well as hand out medals alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

France and England will meet in the World Cup third-place play-off match on Saturday at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami ahead of the final on Sunday.
