David Ornstein speaks out on Marcus Rashford’s Man United future with one club in ‘pole position’ for deal

Finding a new permanent home for Marcus Rashford will be a top priority for Manchester United this summer.

Ruben Amorim has made some bold decisions since taking charge at Old Trafford, and he raised eyebrows when Marcus Rashford was frozen out of the squad and challenged over his work rate.

Manchester United’s prized academy product was then loaned out to Aston Villa in January. Once reports revealed that Villa can sign Rashford for £40m this summer, it seemed inevitable that his time at Old Trafford was over.

It seems Rashford will not play for United again, but Villa have not yet confirmed they will sign the 27-year-old permanently so Ineos could have a transfer saga on their hands.

David Ornstein on Marcus Rashford’s future

Rashford scored against Manchester City this week, but Villa’s defeat at the Etihad Stadium could have major ramifications on whether he is signed this summer.

Villa may rely on qualifying for the Champions League in order to afford Marcus Rashford’s £40m fee and salary. However, their defeat in Manchester dropped them down to seventh in the Premier League table.

Transfer expert David Ornstein spoke about Rashford’s future on Sky Sports, and he insists Villa are still in “pole position”.

“He’s kind of rejuvenated himself but I don’t think he has a future at Manchester United,” Ornstein said.

“So Aston Villa would be in pole position to take him. The financial ramifications of missing out on the Champions League would be sharp and so they will have to weigh up the costs of whether they can still do it.

“Whether he wants to join them, whether there are clubs who will pay Manchester United more for him if Villa don’t take it up.”

Ornstein revealed Rashford will not cut his salary, which could add further complications into a potential summer move.

What other clubs are interested in Marcus Rashford deal?

Before he completed his move to Aston Villa, it was revealed that Rashford’s ‘dream’ move is Barcelona, but the Spanish giants could not afford a deal.

They could revisit it in the summer if Villa pass up on the option to sign Rashford permanently.

Reports have also suggested that Crystal Palace are interested in Rashford and could provide competition to Villa for his signature.

In 2022, Rashford came close to joining PSG before a change of sporting director saw the move collapse.

After Rashford starred for Villa vs PSG in the Champions League this season, the French giants could reignite their interest in him this summer.

United and Ineos will only be interested in who is willing to pay the most.
