The Marcus Rashford chapter at Manchester United has come to an end, for now, with the forward set to join Aston Villa on initial loan till the end of the season.

Aston Villa will cover 70% of Marcus Rashford’s wages, while the buy option is also negotiated which paves the way for him to leave permanently.

It ends an association that was there for multiple decades and the thought of seeing Rashford in another Premier League team’s jersey is unlikely to be palatable for many Man Utd fans.

In the meantime, the buy option fee negotiated between the two parties sure to leave fans a bit disappointed.

Fabrizio Romano on Marcus Rashford to Aston Villa

Villa’s interest in Rashford developed extremely quickly, going from having exploratory talks and the player being reluctant to now having the deal as good as sealed.

The deal is considered as good as sealed because Fabrizio Romano has given his famed “Here we go” to the move.

He won’t be eligible to play against Manchester United this season as he’s on loan while the clubs are in different European competitions.

Romano revealed that 70% of his wages will be covered by Villa, which is a huge bonus since his wages are in the region of £325k/week without the UCL reduction clause, so they are likely to be in the region of £250k/week.

While the salary coverage is a win for United, the buy option fee of £40 million is hardly cause to celebrate.

Marcus Rashford’s true value laid bare

For a player who was linked with the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan, this has to serve as a wake-up call to the player, especially the buy option of just £40 million.

Granted, his wages are playing a big part as to why that option is so low but this is a player who has been talked about ad-nauseam when his output on the field doesn’t merit it.

As an academy product, United will still be thankful for each and every one of those pounds because of the ramifications for PSR but Villa have effectively valued Rashford at almost the same price as Patrick Dorgu plus a few million.

That’s a 27-year-old international who should be at the peak of his powers for club and country.

Then again, if he was, then he probably wouldn’t even be sold.
