Manchester United’s pursuit of Mathys Tel looks set to go right to the wire on transfer deadline day.
Before Sunday’s loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford, fans were introduced to Manchester United’s January recruits with Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven unveiled.
The club however have been keen to sign a third player this window, and it looked likely to be Mathys Tel.
United were ‘working hard’ to sign Tel over the weekend with Bayern Munich looking for a £45m obligation with any loan to sign the Frenchman.
Ineos are thought to have offered an option to buy – but Bayern demanded that the deal be an obligation, something United could not afford.
This has led to the deal stalling, but there is still hope with what Bayern are now trying to do.

Bayern Munich could open Mathys Tel up for loan move
With United unable to commit to an obligation, the ball is in Bayern’s court regarding a deal.
Now, reports from Germany have claimed that Bayern are looking to get the dominos flowing toward sending Tel on loan.
This is according to BILD, who explains that because Bayern have six players out on loan abroad already, Tel cannot be loaned out right now.
But Bayern are looking to solve this issue, with the Bavarian giants looking to sell currently loanee, Taichi Fukui, on a permanent basis. Bayern are in talks with his loan club, Arouca, over the sale.
By doing this, it could free up a spot for Tel to be sent on loan without the obligation which could see United rejoin the race with no need to commit to an expensive transfer.
Latest Manchester United transfer news on deadline day
Despite no deals being promised by Ruben Amorim, it seems United are working in the background to get something done.
Aston Villa’s Leon Bailey is one player linked with a deadline-day move to Old Trafford, a move which would be underwhelming.
This follows Marcus Rashford’s exit, which has seen many United players react including JJ Gabriel.
In terms of outgoings, there is radio silence at United right now with Harry Amass now set to remain despite loan interest.
There is around 10 hours remaining in the window, and there is still plenty which could transpire – but United must get something done.
