Amid Manchester United closing in on a deal for Patrick Dorgu, the club could bring in a forward before the deadline.

Earlier this week, it was claimed Mathys Tel was keen to leave Bayern Munich, and links to Manchester United did not take long to arise.

United had first been linked with a move for Tel in December 2023. Now we enter February 2025 come, a deal could come to fruition.

Manchester United pushing for Tel

Activity has been bubbling away with regard to Mathys Tel over the past 48 hours. Saudi Pro League teams made an approach, before backing off.

Tottenham Hotspur were pushing to secure a permanent move. The Mail report Tel has outright rejected a move to Spurs.

Manchester United are a different level of attraction, and the Red Devils are continuing to press in what could be defined as an unexpected yet unique market opportunity.

German journalist Christopher Michel reports that United are “now working hard on a transfer for Mathys Tel and Tel, who has been on the club’s list for some time, is very interested.

“A loan with an option to buy would be the preferred model from Manchester.”

Michel was the first to report Manchester United’s interest in midfielder Sekou Kone in 2024.

Mathys Tel would add to Manchester United

Mathys Tel scored for Bayern Munich in their 4-3 victory over Manchester United in September 2023.

The 19-year-old has struggled for game-time under new Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, and only started his first Champions League game this week.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl has accepted Tel’s desire to move and is ready to facilitate an exit – but whether they can agree a fee with United is another matter.

Tel is a player who has high potential, his playing style was once likened to Kylian Mbappe, while Julian Nagelsmann tipped him to become a 40-goal per season forward.

He is Bayern’s youngest ever goalscorer, and parts of his game have even been likened to Arjen Robben.

With Marcus Rashford seeking an exit, a move to bring in Mathys Tel would give the club an extra attacking option, with high up-side.
