Paul Scholes argues it is ‘quite clear’ that Man Utd must ‘build a team around’ Ruben Amorim’s ace player, there’s no debate

Paul Scholes has insisted that one of Ruben Amorim’s key first-team players is “involved in nearly everything that Manchester United” do on the football pitch.

Ruben Amorim’s men have only two matches remaining in their Premier League campaign and Manchester United are in the Europa League final as well.

The Red Devils fell to their 17th Premier League loss of the 2024-25 season on Sunday afternoon, with West Ham beating United 2-0 at Old Trafford.

United are winless in their last five league matches under Amorim and the Red Devils will end the season with their worst finish in the Premier League era.

Amorim’s side dropped to 16th place in the Premier League after United’s loss to West Ham and the Red Devils have had a woeful 2024-25 campaign in the league.

United have only managed to pick up 10 wins in 36 Premier League matches and the Red Devils will finish the current season outside of the top half of the table.

The Red Devils must now rely on their 2024-25 Europa League run to secure them a place back in Europe for the 2025-26 campaign at Old Trafford under Amorim.

The Europa League would offer United a route back to the Champions League and allow Amorim to lift his first piece of major silverware as United manager as well.

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes makes his position clear on Bruno Fernandes amid transfer interest from Saudi Arabia

Bruno Fernandes has remained an integral part of Ruben Amorim’s plans at Old Trafford and he has continued to show his importance for Manchester United.

The 30-year-old United captain has netted 19 times and picked up 19 assists in 54 matches across all competitions for the Red Devils in the 2024-25 campaign.

Bruno Fernandes is under contract with United until 2027 after the Red Devils skipper inked a new deal with the Premier League club last summer.

However, the Portugal international’s future at Old Trafford has been in doubt in recent weeks after Fernandes attracted interest from a Saudi Arabia-based club.

Speaking in his column for TNT Sports, Paul Scholes suggested that it is “quite clear” that United must keep hold of Fernandes for Red Devils boss Amorim.

“Bruno Fernandes has to stay because he’s the best player,” he said.

“He’s involved in nearly everything that Manchester United do well.

“Sometimes there’s not a lot you can do when there’s such a big demand from the Saudi league, who would pay ridiculous money.

“It’s quite clear that they need to keep him and build a team around him.

“It’s just whether they get the option to do that with having money to buy new players and adding space in the squad to bring new players in.”

Paul Scholes speaks out on Man Utd manager Ruben Amorim and offloading players from Old Trafford

Scholes suggested that Champions League football will benefit United in attracting new talent, but he said that Amorim could struggle to sell some existing players.

“With the deals that the club have done in the last few years, it’s going to be very difficult for Amorim to get rid of people,” he added.

“If you get into the Champions League, it’s going to be quite easy to bring people in, but at the same time, you’ve got to get people out and that’s going to be the hardest part of his job.”

The Red Devils will face Chelsea on Friday at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League before United’s Europa League final clash with Tottenham on 21st May in Bilbao.
