Manchester United continue to find new lows at the weekends after finding high midweek, as West Ham became the latest team to beat them at Old Trafford, winning 2-0.
A scrappy opening to the game reflected the domestic campaigns the two teams are having, before West Ham became the “less worse” team, scoring with their first shot on target via Soucek.
United barely laid a glove on West Ham in response and went into half-time a goal behind. The game became worse for Ruben Amorim when Leny Yoro came off due to injury.
West Ham piled on the misery with a second goal via Wan-Bissaka’s assist to end the game as a contest.
United tried to hit back but their wastefulness combined with Areola’s mastery in goal ensured there was no famous Old Trafford comeback this time.

Here’s how the players rated –
Man Utd player ratings
Altay Bayindir – 5
Not much better than Onana. Panic permeates through the defence when he’s between the sticks.
Noussair Mazraoui – 4
Out of position for West Ham’s opener and looked a step behind the pace. Clearly tired.
Leny Yoro – 7
Started as the central centre-back and regularly drove forward as the brightest spot of the back three. His injury-enforced sub is a huge blow.
Luke Shaw – 5
No clear errors in defence but more was expected of him in the buildup. Was extremely quiet.
Amad – 6
Quickened the pace of a laborious performance with his dribbles but found wanting on defence.
Harry Amass – 3
Struggled against Coufal’s physicality and the goal came as a result of Soucek stealing a march on him. Probably his worst game since his senior debut.
Manuel Ugarte – 4
Lost the ball for West Ham’s second when he tried to win a foul instead of just releasing the ball.
Bruno Fernandes – 5
Started encouragingly but faded away with the rest of the team. Not influential.
Kobbie Mainoo – 5
No fleet-footed magic in an advanced role this time West Ham closed space between the lines.
Mason Mount – 6.5
Best of a bad bunch with his off-the-ball running and searching balls from deep.
Rasmus Hojlund – 4
Huffed and puffed to no avail again. Fluffed the chances created for him, including one from point blank that was harder to miss than score.
Substitutes
Harry Maguire – 6.5
Made some audacious passes and was a nuisance in the attacking box as well but to no avail.
Victor Lindelof – 5
Could’ve done better for West Ham’s second as he kept getting pegged back.
Patrick Dorgu – 5
Full of energy and running but lacking in quality
Alejandro Garnacho – 6
Buzzed about with purpose but his clinical instinct remained missing.
Christian Eriksen – 6
Came on late and made no impact.
