Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract at Old Trafford that will keep him at the club until 2027.

Ever since joining Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon back in January of 2020, Bruno Fernandes has been one of the best players in the Premier League.

The news broke earlier this week that Fernandes was closing in on a new contract at Old Trafford and United have now confirmed the club captain’s extension.

Fernandes looks set to be among United’s highest earners which is hardly surprising considering the impact he has made during his four-year stint at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes has say on new United contract

United’s website claims that Fernandes has put pen to paper on a contract that will expire in June 2027 but, as is the case with most new deals, the Red Devils have the option to extend that by a year.

Speaking to the club’s in-house media, Fernandes said: “Everybody knows the passion I have for Manchester United. I understand the responsibility and significance of wearing this shirt, and the levels of dedication and desire required to represent this incredible club.

“I have had so many special moments here already; hearing my name sung from the Stretford End, scoring a hat-trick against Leeds, leading the team out at Old Trafford on European nights and lifting trophies at Wembley.

But I wouldn’t have signed this contract if I didn’t believe that my best moments in a United shirt are still to come.

“From my discussions with the football leadership and manager, it is clear how determined everyone is to fight for major trophies in the years ahead. I can see how positive the future is going to be and I am relishing leading this team forward.”

Dan Ashworth comments on Fernandes’ new deal

United’s sporting director Dan Ashworth, who has been front and centre in all new signings and contract renewals this summer, also had his say.

“Bruno has performed at such a high level with remarkable consistency since he arrived at Manchester United,” Ashworth said. He is a brilliant leader, driving the daily standards and inspiring the players and staff to perform at their highest levels every day.

“Bruno’s dedication to the club epitomises what it takes to be a United player. He remains pivotal to everything that we want to achieve here, and we look forward to working together to deliver the success that this club demands.”

United gets key new contract over the line

Fernandes was ‘excellent’ against Manchester City according to Micah Richards and the Portuguese star is in line for a key campaign at Old Trafford.

United have strengthened their forward line this summer and the Red Devils could add Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain to their midfield.

Since moving to Old Trafford, the club captain has scored 79 goals and contributed 67 assists in his 234 appearances for the club.

The Portuguese midfielder was thoroughly deserving of his new deal and Erik Ten Hag will be hoping the attacking star has another brilliant campaign for the Red Devils.
