Newcastle suffer injury blow ahead of Manchester United clash

Manchester United’s opponents Newcastle have suffered a key injury blow ahead of Saturday’s fixtures.

Callum Wilson has been ruled out by manager Steve Bruce, who confirmed the news at his press conference.

Wilson finished last season as Newcastle’s top goalscorer with 12 goals.

He had begun this season in good form, netting two goals from his opening three matches.

This leaves Newcastle likely to start Joelinton up front, who scored just four goals last season and is yet to net this campaign.

Newcastle are also without winger Ryan Fraser, who has an ankle injury. He had just been a substitute in their three opening games.

United should be targeting clean sheet

Manchester United are likely to line-up with Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane in defence.

The pairing will be targeting a second successive clean sheet, which could be easier with Wilson out injured.

Newcastle’s biggest dangerman is winger Allan Saint-Maximin, while playmaker Almiron is also available for selection.

Steve Bruce’s side would likely be happy with a point and are likely to come to Old Trafford to try and frustrate, set up to defend.

An early goal will be a big help for Cristiano Ronaldo and co, and could pave the way for several more.
