Last season was a breakthrough campaign for 19-year-old Shea Lacey, who made four first-team appearances in 2025/26.
Michael Carrick named Lacey in the starting XI to face Rosenborg in Trondheim on Friday evening, and United fans were blown away by Lacey’s performance.

According to Steven Railston on X, United analyst Kaita Hasegawa was impressed with Lacey’s defensive work rate against Rosenborg.
Railston said that Hasegawa “nodded along as Lacey tracked back to help Mbeumo win the turnover.”
Lacey played 60 minutes against Rosenborg, playing predominantly in a central role as an advanced midfielder.
The teenager showcased his technical ability in possession, picking up dangerous spaces and creating chances in tight-knit areas.
But the biggest concerns around Lacey so far have been his physicality, and he proved against Rosenborg that he can carry out his defensive work at a senior, first-team level.

Heading into 2026/27, Lacey has transformed from an exciting academy graduate to a solid first-team option for Carrick.
Lacey is already playing with more maturity and taking more responsibility after his taste of senior football last season.
