Cristiano Ronaldo is back. The Portuguese superstar scored his first Manchester United goal of his return just before half-time against Newcastle.
The strike followed a largely frustrating first half in which Newcastle set out to defend and did so effectively.
Then in the second minute of first half injury time, Ronaldo was on hand to finish from close range after goalkeeper Freddie Woodman spilled a fierce effort from Mason Greenwood.
Ronaldo was in the right place at the right time and showed a poacher’s instinct to finish.
Teammate Marcus Rashford, out with injury, reacted happily to Ronaldo’s goal.
Ronaldo had five attempts on goal in the first half, with his first four missing the target.
The fifth was enough to put United 1-0 up, and change the direction of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s half-time team talk.
It is quite amazing to see Ronaldo out there, strutting about in the number 7 shirt again.
He looks comfortable back at Old Trafford and this was his 119th Manchester United goal. We should get used to the old routine becoming new again.
