100% tackles, 100% take-ons, Man United target Ederson was flawless in latest Atalanta display

Manchester United continue to be linked with a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson in 2025.

Ruben Amorim has some difficult selection decisions to make on Monday evening when Manchester United face Newcastle United in the Premier League.

With Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte suspended after picking up cards in the defeat to Wolves, Amorim is facing a slight midfield crisis with Mason Mount also out injured.

Toby Collyer could get a chance to impress against Newcastle with Amorim running short of midfield options. That is something the Portuguese head coach will be desperate to address over 2025 and Atalanta’s Ederson is on United’s transfer radar.

The 25-year-old Brazilian was in action for Atalanta on Saturday afternoon.

How Man United target Ederson fared vs Lazio

Ederson has been a key player in an Atalanta side that currently sit top of the Serie A standings in Italy.

He has featured in all 18 of their league fixtures so far and was looking to extend their 11-game winning streak when they faced Lazio on Saturday afternoon.

Atalanta ended up drawing 1-1 with Marco Brescianini rescuing a point for the league leaders with a late equaliser. Ederson played the full 90 minutes and a glance at his match stats shows he was flawless.

Ederson won all his tackles and aerial duels and also completed all of his take-ons, while he also won six out of his eight total duels.

Similar to Amorim’s 3-4-3 system at United, Ederson played in a midfield pairing in a three-at-the back formation – the same role he would have if he completes a move to Old Trafford in 2025.

Man United interest in signing Ederson in 2025

While left wing-back is an area that Amorim desperately wants to improve, United could also dip into the market for a midfielder and Fabrizio Romano confirmed United want Ederson.

Reports in November suggested that United have spoken to Ederson’s representatives and interest in the Brazilian is now ramping up.

Old Trafford insiders are convinced by Ederson and he appears to be the first-choice target agreed upon by the recruitment team.

Atalanta want around £49m for Ederson which would put a sizeable dent in the January transfer budget, but he appears to be hitting form just ahead of the January transfer window opening on Wednesday.
