Three Man Utd academy midfielders have golden opportunity vs Newcastle, amid Ruben Amorim selection nightmare

Manchester United’s midfield options are looking incredibly slim heading into Monday night’s game against Newcastle.

Ruben Amorim cannot catch a break right now.

Amid the worst run of form in his managerial career, he is also contending with a severe lack of options and against Newcastle, Manchester United’s midfield choices are at their worst in a long time.

A midfield absence list which before the Wolves game only included the ever-injured Mason Mount, claimed three names during United’s 2-0 loss.

Both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are suspended for the Old Trafford clash. Meanwhile, Kobbie Mainoo is a doubt after being spotted departing the Molineux limping on Thursday.

These circumstances lend themselves well for an academy star to step up for a golden opportunity with only Casemiro and Christian Eriksen remaining as senior options.

Given how bad United have been, it is a chance for a new star to be born and these three midfield gems are well placed.

Jack Moorhouse

Option number one for Amorim to draft in is Jack Moorhouse.

Amorim watched Moorhouse score a brace at U21 level a few weeks ago and was surely blown away by his performance.

Moorhouse could be a brilliant option to contribute behind the striker as a replacement for Bruno and Mount in this game.

We have chosen Moorhouse ahead of the more glitzy names like Amir Ibragimov as he is with the U21s who resume their season in two weeks’ time – while the U18s have an extended period of time off, lasting until January 18th.

Moorhouse has also been tipped for promotion very soon and so we think it’s plausible he would be on the bench.

Dan Gore

Another U21 star who scored in the game Amorim watched at Carrington was Dan Gore – who also commanded the midfield impressively.

Gore was a level above the opposition at academy level and therefore we imagine he will have caught Amorim’s eye.

Ugarte and Gore are similar players, and so we think Amorim would absolutely love the 19-year-old destroyer.

Casemiro will likely start, but we would suggest Gore will be one player considered to take his place from the bench late in the game.

A solid cameo could also do wonders for Gore’s hopes of heading out on loan in 2025.

Toby Collyer

The final academy midfielder we are suggesting is a little more obvious, with Toby Collyer already a borderline first-team member.

Despite this, Collyer has yet to feature under Amorim and his season under Erik ten Hag was not as impactful as predicted.

However, with such few options this is surely the game which sees Collyer get his chance. In fact, there is a high likelihood that he will start considering how poor a midfield of Casemiro and Eriksen is.

This could be a huge chance for Collyer – more so than the other names on this list.
