Manchester United’s match with Wolves is one that will have repercussions for the next fixture.

A costly game at Molineux has given Manchester United an even bigger challenge, for the following match at home to Newcastle.

Manchester United’s final fixture of 2024 is at Old Trafford on Monday December 30, taking place against Newcastle.

Ruben Amorim‘s men are up against it, set to be without two key midfielders for the fixture.

Fernandes and Ugarte suspended

Manchester United will be without two midfielders selected to start against Wolves, due to suspension.

Bruno Fernandes received a red card in the game at Molineux, sent off after receiving a second booking early in the second half.

A second suspension will see Manuel Ugarte miss the game, following an accumulation of yellow cards.

This weakens United’s midfield options for the Newcastle game, new boss Ruben Amorim does not have a lot to choose from.

Manchester United options vs Newcastle

Manchester United’s midfield options are very limited for the Newcastle fixture, with Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen expected to be the midfield trio.

Casemiro and Eriksen came off the bench late in the second half and did give United a jolt, although unable to grab an equaliser.

Another name who could come into the mix is Toby Collyer, who recently featured on the substitute’s bench against Bournemouth.

United will be looking to avoid a fourth successive defeat, when facing Newcastle, before beginning January with games against Liverpool and Arsenal.

It’s not getting any easier, and it’s time for the big character in United’s squad to step up and stop the rot.
