£50m Manchester United target praised as some inside Old Trafford convinced about his ability

Manchester United signed Manuel Ugarte in August but still need midfield investment to bolster Ruben Amorim’s options.

2024 is coming to an end and Manchester United fans will be hoping for a brighter 2025.

Winning the FA Cup was a high point but United still look a long way away from challenging at the top of the Premier League table.

Ruben Amorim will want to change that in 2025 but the new boss certainly needs to be backed in the transfer market.

United spent £42million on Manuel Ugarte over the summer and he has started to find his feet under his former Sporting boss Amorim.

Bruno Fernandes has praised Ugarte but United need more quality in the engine room and one target continues to be mentioned.

Manchester United interest in Ederson

Reports in November suggested that United have spoken to Ederson’s representatives having been impressed with the Atalanta midfielder.

Ederson has been outstanding for Atalanta and the rumours of United’s interest is not going away.

Florian Plettenberg reported late on Thursday night that United are ‘seriously considering’ a move to sign Ederson in 2025.

It’s suggested that some inside Old Trafford are completely convinced by Ederson and want the Brazilian to be signed.

However, not everybody is completely convinced and that means United are yet to launch negotiations with Atalanta.

Atalanta want around €60million (£50million) for Ederson and United will have to weigh up whether to make a move.

Atalanta star hails Ederson

There seems to be some indecision inside United on whether or not to make a move for Ederson either in January or at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old has been outstanding in Serie A though and teammate Marten de Roon has praised him.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport and as quoted by FootItalia, De Roon suggested that there is simply nobody quite like Ederson due to his speed around the pitch.

“There are no words: speed and recovery ability that no one else has,” said De Roon.

That all-action style may mesh well with Ugarte’s ball-winning abilities with Ederson a little more expansive in possession.

United will have to cough up a large fee though and everybody needs to be on board in order for this move to materialise.
