Player signed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could play surprising role in Man Utd signing Victor Osimhen

January 2025 is a transfer window in which Manchester United will have to be incredibly smart with recruitment to improve Ruben Amorim’s squad.

With a budget of practically zero to begin with, and PSR breathing down the necks of Manchester United, moves must be wise.

Ruben Amorim has already declared how difficult it will be to sign players, however, the United head coach suggested the club are hopeful of doing some business.

One way the Red Devils could bolster the chances of signing players is with the potential exit of Marcus Rashford.

With Rashford now for sale at United, but Napoli are instead considering a swap deal, with lethal striker Victor Osimhen potentially heading in the opposite direction.

Osimhen would represent a drastic improvement on United’s current striking options, with the Nigerian being a bonafide world-class forward.

Victor Osimhen will have been advised by Odion Ighalo

Osimhen dreams of playing in the Premier League – according to reports – and United could be about to make this dream come true. Osimhen has always appeared to have a special place for United since being pictured with Odion Ighalo, who presented his fellow Nigerian striker with a United shirt.

Osimhen has long been considered Ighalo’s protege, and the former United loanee who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer signed has spoken glowingly about Osimhen and United.

Back in 2023, Ighalo was discussing Osimhen and the topic of United arose – to which he explained what he would tell the Napoli forward should he ever consider moving to Old Trafford.

“If Victor Osimhen asked me what he should do, I would tell him to go to Manchester United because, for me, it is the biggest club.”

So if Osimhen listens to Ighalo, he could very soon be leading the line for United with the former striker playing a surprising role.

Osimhen will struggle to transform Manchester United

Signing a striker like Osimhen – especially on loan would be an excellent move for United and presents little risk as it also sees a final Rashford decision postponed to the summer.

However, it would be foolish to think that a top-tier No.9 is all it will take to change the fortunes at Old Trafford.

United’s biggest problem is the wing-back position, which could easily be solved if Rashford was sold for a fee opposed to a swap deal/loan.

Osimhen would score goals, but without wing-backs and the system functioning well enough, he would not get enough chances to really transform United’s fortunes.

One way Osimhen could be a game-changer however is that Rasmus Hojlund would finally have a forward to be mentored by.
