Victor Osimhen and Marcus Rashford potential partnership assessed by Odion Ighalo

Manchester United’s move to sign Odion Ighalo on loan in 2020 saw the striker become the first Nigerian player to star for the Red Devils.

Ighalo scored five goals during his loan spell, and he is hoping that his compatriot Victor Osimhen makes the summer move to Old Trafford.

ESPN has reported Osimhen is high on Manchester United’s shortlist for the summer, while Gianluca di Marzio had also told  Soccernews that the club’s interest is serious.

Osimhen is Serie A’s top goalscorer this season with 19 goals in 21 games for league leading Napoli.

Ighalo on Osimhen to United

Odion Ighalo was a Manchester United supporter before he joined the club and he would like to see his former international teammate follow in his footsteps.

The Al Hilal striker says he could see Osimhen forming a devastating partnership with Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford.

He says he would give this advice to Osimhen if he asks him, arguing that United are the best club he could possibly join.

Ighalo was quoted by Sky Sports: “I think it’s a good fit because he is a young boy, he runs and he can score goals.

“Having Victor Osimhen and Rashford in the top at Manchester United will cause any defender panic because they are two fast players and they are goalscorers.

“I think he will fit in Manchester United so well. If he asked for my opinion and what should he do, I would advise him to join Man United because, for me, they are the biggest club.”

Osimhen’s potential move to Manchester United will come down to finances. The fee required for the Napoli frontman could reach £100 million.

Last week he was quoted by Metro saying his ambition is to play in the Premier League.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis wants to keep him but opened the door to a departure, telling TNT Sports last month: “Sometimes there are offers you can’t refuse, so you never know.”

Backed by a potential takeover, Manchester United will have the funds to make an offer at the right price.
