Odion Ighalo has had a dream start at Manchester United and he has engaged the club’s huge Nigerian fanbase.

The former Super Eagles international has been a big hit as United’s first Nigerian player.

There is another Nigerian striker who United could look to this summer, but latest reports suggest he would cost a staggering fee.

Victor Osimhen is enjoying a very good season at Lille, he has netted 18 goals so far and provided four assists.

He is the type of player United should be eyeing as a ‘striker of the future’ as the club look for a long-term answer at the position after missing out on Erling Haaland.

Osimhen has been highly touted ever since finishing as top scorer at the under-17 World Cup as a youngster.

He is still only 21 and joined Lille for just £10 million from German side Wolfsburg last summer.

French newspaper La Voix du Nord reported last November that United and Barcelona had sent scouts to watch him in action.

Now he will cost how much?!

Lille managed to get a mammoth £72 million for Nicolas Pepe last summer and now they are dreaming of another huge fee.

French outlet Le10Sport report Lille are targeting the biggest sale in the club’s history after Osimhen’s bright start.

It is claimed they have been contacted by several top clubs during the past eight months, enquiring about the young centre-forward.

The report says Lille are even eyeing a fee of 100 million Euros – which currently works out at £93.9 million, although it does question if any club would consider paying this.

Good signing at the right price

The type of fee Lille want is too much, but after getting the money they did for Pepe, it is understandable they will try.

Pepe’s struggles at Arsenal will make clubs more nervous about shelling out for Osimhen, who has just had one season at Lille.

A fee of £50 million would still give Lille an impressive profit on the fee they paid. United should make a ‘take it or leave it’ offer.

Ighalo has been a revelation at United so far and could sign a permanent deal for just £15 million, The Mirror report.

It would be ideal for United this summer to address the long-term future of the position too and getting in compatriot Osimhen would be an exciting option.

The duo have played together before and Ighalo has acted as a mentor for him.

Ighalo told ESPN: “I told him he has to keep working hard, stay humble and always be ready to learn, and above all not to get carried away with success or hype but just to keep improving.”

If a move to United is to happen though, Lille need to be more sensible with their asking price.

There is only so high United will go, especially with Jadon Sancho a priority in terms of transfer funds.
