Manchester United’s six most likely signings for summer 2025, ranked

Manchester United are already looking ahead to summer after taking a measured approach in the January transfer window.

Patrick Dorgu and youngster Ayden Heaven were Manchester United’s two signings in the January transfer window.

Beyond that, United elected to save the funds for the summer, when the club could be bolstered by permanent sales of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and potentially a few more too.

It’s already possible to forecast how Manchester United’s summer transfer window could pan out. And while a lot could change between now and June, here is a look at the top six potential additions.

1) Geovany Quenda

Geovany Quenda, 17, made his Sporting debut under Ruben Amorim and was a key part of the coach’s starting XI prior to taking the United job.

Quenda plays as a right wing-back and his arrival could double up nicely with United signing Patrick Dorgu for the left flank.

United had been eyeing Quenda even before Amorim’s appointment, and it has been claimed the club have been exploring a deal ahead of the summer.

Quenda has a release clause in his deal around £33 million, and while Ruben Amorim pledged not to sign any Sporting players in January, this is very much on the table for summer 2025.

2) Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United need to sign a striker, and the big reason the club did not in January, is because funds are being ring-fenced for the summer.

The standout top target is Viktor Gyokeres, Amorim’s lead man at Sporting, and the Red Devils boss will be relieved he stuck around at Sporting in the January window.

While United will face competition for his services, Amorim’s presence puts United in pole position for Gyokeres’ signature.

Proven to work in Ruben Amorim’s system, he has scored 34 goals already this season for Sporting. The Times report he has a verbal agreement with Sporting that he will be available for £63 million the summer, good value.

3) Chris Rigg

Sunderland teenager Chris Rigg is one of the most highly rated young players in England and he was scouted by Manchester United on deadline day.

Rigg, 17, has already been playing Championship football for the past year, and could be English football’s next Jude Bellingham.

United have been tracking Rigg for a couple of years now, with one scout describing him as possessing Bryan Robson like qualities.

With Ineos putting a clear focus on youth investment, and needing to invest in the midfield with Christian Eriksen set to leave, Rigg looks like both a sensible and exciting potential addition.

4) Sverre Nypan

Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan was one of the most discussed young players heading into the January transfer window.

United’s funds did not extend to an attacker, and Nypan held talks with other interested clubs including Arsenal, yet declined to make a move.

Nypan is a United supporter and could thrive in Amorim’s system behind a striker. He last set a record in Norway as the youngest teenager since Erling Haaland to score a hat-trick.

While just as likely he could yet end up with a rival club, United are still in the hunt for Nypan after his decision to stay put at Rosenborg for now.

5) Jarrad Branthwaite

Jarrad Branthwaite was a top defensive target for United last summer before being judged as too expensive, with the club moving for Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt instead.

Branthwaite has refused to sign a new contract at Everton following Manchester United’s interest, and his current deal is closer to it’s expiry in 2027 – although the Toffees do have an extra option.

This one will be dependent on price again, potentially reduced due to his expiring deal.

United’s interest in signing a new centre-back is expected to heighten after Lisandro Martinez suffering a torn ACL.

While Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw could fill in, United will also lose Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans on free transfers in the summer, and a new centre-back will likely be targeted, especially with Harry Maguire entering his last year.

Branthwaite is a strong option for United, while Amorim could also target Sporting defenders Goncalo Inacio or Ousmane Diomande.

6) Trincao

Another option in attacking midfield for Manchester United in Sporting star Trincao, who the club hold interest in.

Trincao made his professional debut under Ruben Amorim at Braga, before he signed for him at Sporting.

The attacking midfielder could be an easy fit for United, especially if the club want a more experienced option than Nypan.

The 25-year-old is entering the final year of his Sporting deal, and has seven goals and nine assist in 20 games this season.

This deal could be dependent on how successful United are in offloading Antony, and a few more fringe members of the squad.
