Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has sealed his move to Aston Villa.

Marcus Rashford has made the move no fan expected him to make, swapping Manchester United for Aston Villa.

The move began to unfold on Friday (January 31), with Villa accelerating into pole position for Rashford after selling Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

Most of Rashford wages being covered

Aston Villa have now confirmed the move and it is a deal that works out for Manchester United financially.

BBC Sport’s Simon Stone reports: “A minimum of 75% of Rashford’s wages will be covered. This could rise to 90% depending on permanent related bonuses.

“The deal includes an option to buy.”

Rashford is one of Manchester United’s highest earners on approximately £300,000 per week, although this may have taken an enforced dip due to the club not qualifying for the Champions League in 2024/25.

One way or another, it is important most of his salary is being covered while he is on loan, and the buy option leads to a potentially permanent route of the club.

Fresh start for Manchester United and Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford had lost his enthusiasm for playing for Manchester United. He admitted this in an interview in December when he expressed he wanted a new challenge.

Back then, he probably was not envisioning a move to Aston Villa.

Rashford had been linked with Europe’s top clubs, with negotiations taking place with Barcelona, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund among others.

In the end, he remains in the Premier League, where he will have to live by his choice, and make the best of his fresh start.

Manchester United can rebuild with players who want to be part of the project. Rashford was a player who was not committed, as head coach Ruben Amorim had made clear on multiple occasions.
