Manchester United have agreed a deal for Jadon Sancho to leave the club with Chelsea now on the verge of signing the winger.
The summer transfer window slammed shut at 11pm on Friday but that isn’t really the end of the business.
Premier League clubs can submit deal sheets, effectively extending the window by two hours if deals are in the pipeline.
Manchester United’s incoming business is all done and dusted for the summer having finally completed the signing of Manuel Ugarte.
The Uruguayan arrives from Paris Saint-Germain after weeks of speculation with the deal done at long last.
There is one piece of business still to be confirmed though as Jadon Sancho prepares to leave Old Trafford.
Jadon Sancho fee emerges
United brought winger Sancho back into the first-team fold this summer but his long-term future always seemed to belong away from Old Trafford.
Sancho infamously fell out with Erik ten Hag last season and spent the second half of the campaign back on loan with Borussia Dortmund.
United have been open to offers for Sancho and Juventus appeared to be closing in just days ago.
Chelsea have forced their way to the front of the queue though and the Blues are now on the verge of a deal.
Fabrizio Romano has already confirmed the move, stating that it will be a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel now claims that the obligation will be worth just £23million as Chelsea commit to the winger’s long-term future.
Sancho will face a battle with the likes of Pedro Neto, Mykhailo Mudryk, Christopher Nkunku and Joao Felix but will be desperate to prove that he is worth the £23million investment.
The Athletic report the fee could be more fluid, ranging between £20-25 million based on performance milestones.
How Jadon Sancho’s price tag fell
United had been chasing Sancho for a long time before his move from Borussia Dortmund in 2021.
Sancho ended up costing a huge £73million after dazzling in the Bundesliga.
Living up to that price tag has proven difficult for Sancho and United appeared open to selling last summer.
The Daily Mail reported that United were open to offers of around £45million in 2023 – even before the Ten Hag spat.
Now leaving on loan with a £23million deal to come, Sancho’s value has dropped £50million in three years.
There is a player in Sancho but it has become clear over the last year that we were never going to see it in a United shirt – and his disappointing Old Trafford career is now over.
