Manchester United are eyeing a couple of promising midfield additions in advance of the January transfer window.
One potential target is Sunderland whizkid Chris Rigg, who United feel could be a generational midfield talent, HITC has reported.
Another player on United’s radar is Norwegian talent Sverre Nypan, 17, who will be eligible for a move in January after he turns 18 in December.
United sent scouts to watch Nypan earlier this month, TV2Sport reported – and a consistent presence is expected to pay very close attention to his development.
The 17-year-old is already a first team regular for Rosenborg, and starred against United in pre-season back in July.

Sverre Nypan stars in latest performance
Sverre Nypan put on show to lead Rosenborg to a 4-0 victory over Haugesund in their latest Eliteserien match.
Nypan scored Rosenborg’s third goal, one of six shots he attempted in a lively performance, in which he had 10 touches inside the opposition box.
The teenager created one chance, while winning 100 per cent of his tackles (3/3) in the 75 minutes he played.
Nypan also began the move leading to Rosenborg’s second goal of the game, with TV2 commentator Haakon Frydenberg Thon lauding the ‘beautiful football’ being played.
This season Nypan has scored six goals and has provided six assists, having established himself as a regular starter in the Rosenborg team.
Manchester United would be buying a player who at a young age is amassing real experience in senior football, and is stepping up as a standout player.
Nypan scored a hat-trick for Rosenborg last month, becoming the first Norwegian 17-year-old to do so in their top flight since Erling Haaland, 99 days younger too.
Nypan is a Manchester United supporter
Manchester United are not the only side interested in a move for Sverre Nypan, with Arsenal recently showing interest, according to Fussball News.
Arsenal have a chance due to their recent uplift in form and Norwegian talent Martin Odegaard, but United hold the biggest trump card.
The Sun reported in 2023 how United had already been tracking Nypan for a year, and this long-term interest is backed up with Nypan’s fandom.
The attacking midfielder has admitted his admiration for United, how he idolises Cristiano Ronaldo, and also sees former star Ander Herrera as an inspiration.
If United want him badly enough, there is a strong chance a deal gets done in January, as soon as the club are able to.
