Manchester United’s ‘dream signing’ once almost ruined one of Wayne Rooney’s debuts with ‘special’ moment

It is no secret that Manchester United are in need of a left-back as a priority to strengthen – for a third successive transfer window. Will the club actually bring in a player this time?

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia currently returning to fitness is positive news. But Manchester United have been burned here before.

And with Ruben Amorim’s tactical shift to three at the back adding the need for a specialist wing-back, and raising the possibility of Luke Shaw moving to centre-back, a new addition is very much needed.

Former player Alvaro Fernandez has been linked – but he could be trumped by a Champions League winner.

Manchester United want Alphonso Davies

Manchester United raided Bayern Munich for Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt in the summer.

And rumours persist Manchester United could push to sign Alphonso Davies, who is out of contract at the German club in 2025.

Sky Germany claimed in October that United are interested in Davies, weeks after we tipped a potential move to potentially happen.

The latest international break has brought another round of speculation, with German outlet Fussball News‘s Christopher Michel reporting Davies would be a dream signing.

There is also competition from Real Madrid and Liverpool – while Bayern have not given up on signing Davies to a new deal.

Alphonso Davies almost ruined big Wayne Rooney moment

Alphonso Davies is only 24, yet he has also played against Wayne Rooney. This came back in 2018, when the Manchester United record scorer was making his debut for DC United.

Davies, 17 at the time, managed to almost overshadow Rooney while playing for Vancouver Whitecaps.

The teenager tricked his way past an opponent and curled the ball into the corner – displaying the form which saw United linked with signing him at the time.

Rooney’s DC United did go on to win the game 3-1 – but Davies’ goal almost stole the show.

Davies ended up signing for Bayern Munich, and has not looked back, winning the Champions League in 2020, and five Bundesliga titles.

All through his career he has showed the temperament to succeed on the big stage, as his big goal back in 2018 showed.

Now the talented Canadian may be ready to take on a new challenge, and he would certainly get one at Old Trafford.

Davies’ attacking qualities could make him perfect for Ruben Amorim, and with Real Madrid more likely to pursue him as a free agent next summer, United could land him in January at the right price.
