There were several young talents missing who are also on youth international duty.
Ruben Amorim handed 27 debuts to young players during his time at Sporting, and he is expected to give youth a chance at Old Trafford – when the time is right.
Getting a first hand look at some of them will have provided an opportunity for an early first impression, and the players will hoping for more of the same.
