Manchester United have agreed to bring in Ruben Amorim as manager, replacing Erik ten Hag.
Ruben Amorim will be Manchester United’s next manager, with the club formally announcing his appointment.
Amorim is ready to take on the new challenge at Old Trafford, and will soon dig into the task of improving the team.
The incoming manager has plenty to consider, and player personnel and incomings and outgoings will form part of his assessment.

Amorim needs new left-sided player
Ruben Amorim’s tactics lead with a 3-4-3 formation, and United have enough centre-backs to fill this very well, especially once Leny Yoro is fully fit.
The challenge comes with the fact a left-sided player is still required. It was one of Erik ten Hag’s key mistakes that one was not signed in the summer, amid ongoing injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
Shaw has suffered another setback, and won’t be back until December. Manchester United must sign a left-back.
Various options could be brought in, who are capable of playing in a left wing-back role.
A couple of names who could feature are Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson. Another option might be activating Alvaro Fernandez’s buy-back clause.
Amorim may have his own ideas. And while the identity of the incoming player is yet to be determined, it is crystal clear that one must be signed at the position to add balance to the squad.
Luke Shaw can move to centre-back
Manchester United must create a new plan for Luke Shaw, and not rely on him to solve the left-sided spot when he is fit.
Luke Shaw’s future must be at centre-back, a position he actually played in under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag.
Solskjaer selected Shaw in the role when he shifted to a three-man defence and he played very well.
Ten Hag went a step further at times and used him as a more traditional centre-back, when he had the option to when Tyrell Malacia was fit, during his first season.
Centre-back is a position where Luke Shaw has proven himself, and it is one which could protect him long-term.
Shaw is a player with serious injury history, and playing in a wing-back role where he is demanded to get up and down the pitch, will place high intensity demands on his fitness.
Centre-back is a position which will suit Shaw in the long run, potentially decreasing the risk of further injuries somewhat.
United cannot rely on Shaw or Malacia. Yet Shaw is a valuable player to have available when fit. With three centre-back spots available, he could have a vital role to fill there.
