Liverpool ‘in negotiations’ to sign £50m Manchester United target who could be ideal for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United need to find a new left back in 2025 but Liverpool may be trying to steal a march on one potential signing.

Ruben Amorim has arrived at Manchester United and his reign can truly begin.

Amorim was appointed as United boss on November 1 but continued as Sporting boss until the international break.

Now in Manchester and settling in at Carrington, Amorim is raring to go.

Amorim faces Ipswich Town in his first game as United boss and we will see the first ideas from the 39-year-old coach.

Amorim used a 3-4-3 system at Sporting and we may well see the same from his United side.

Liverpool make first move for Manchester United target

Amorim may need to get creative if he plays that formation and some areas will need some investment in upcoming transfer windows.

A left wing back will be a priority as both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have suffered major injury problems.

United have already been linked with a number of targets in that area with Milos Kerkez one name on the radar.

Reports just last week suggested that United want Bournemouth star Kerkez but face competition from Chelsea and Liverpool.

The Cherries were thought to be demanding around £50million for Kerkez – a huge profit on the £15million they paid to sign Kerkez from AZ Alkmaar in 2023.

United may now be lagging behind in this transfer race though with Liverpool reportedly making their move for Kerkez early.

M4 Sport in Kerkez’s native Hungary claim that Liverpool are ‘in negotiations’ to sign Kerkez.

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes signed Kerkez at Bournemouth and now wants to take him to Anfield.

Add in that Liverpool boss Arne Slot saw plenty of Kerkez in the Eredivisie and this move certainly makes some sense.

Kerkez has been hailed as ‘brilliant’ by Micah Richards and may be ready for a big move away from Bournemouth.

United will be hunting for the right signing amid Milos Kerkez chase

Liverpool may have seized the opportunity to move for Kekrez whilst knowing that United aren’t exactly in a position to make a move yet.

A left wing back will be a target in time but new boss Amorim is still learning about this United squad and isn’t exactly ready to sanction a big transfer.

United will still be looking for potential additions but other left wing back targets look a little tricky.

United are keen on Alphonso Davies but the Bayern Munich superstar allegedly isn’t too keen on the idea of heading to Old Trafford.

Amorim is allegedly keen on Alvaro Fernandez less than a year since United sold him to Benfica.

Davies is a lofty target which looks unlikely to pay off whilst Fernandez is far from a proven force for Premier League action.

Kerkez ticks boxes in terms of his attacking quality, his experience in the Premier League and his potential for the future.

It’s easy to imagine the Hungarian on the left side under Amorim for many years and seeing him join Liverpool instead would sting.

£50million is big money but Liverpool’s move certainly creates a problem for United in terms of finding another ideal target at left wing back.
