Manchester United have held a long-term interest in signing Rosenborg’s biggest talent Sverre Halseth Nypan, and 2025 looks like the year that a deal could be made.
The pursuit of the emerging Norwegian dates back to 2023, when it was reported that Manchester United held an interest in Sverre Nypan.
The 17-year-old is an avid United fan and has even compared himself to cult hero Ander Herrera, a player remembered fondly within Old Trafford.
Manchester United got to watch Nypan in person during pre-season, and he has since gone on to have a brilliant campaign for Rosenborg, proving he is ready for a step up, being labelled a “generational” talent in Norway.
Now, recent reports have suggested that with the Eliteserien campaign concluded and Nypan turning 18 before Christmas, a transfer could finally be made in 2025 with United leading several clubs for his signature.

Sverre Nypan gets Manchester United-themed Christmas gift
Nypan is a player United are actively looking to sign among other clubs, now Rosenborg themselves have dropped a hint which suggests where the player could be keen to move to in the new year.
On YouTube, the Norwegian side posted an ‘Innsiden’ episode which translates to ‘Inside’, with the rest of the title being ‘Secret Santa’.
The video showcased the Rosenborg squad participating in a Secret Santa with each other and at 6 minutes and 57 seconds in, Nypan opened his gift.
Much to his visible delight as he showed it off, was a Manchester United calendar – which could very well be a hint toward where he will be spending his 2025, at Carrington.
This is far from confirming the deal, but it would be logical to assume he would choose to join United over any other interested Premier League clubs like Arsenal.
January transfer move for Nypan is likely Ineos business
Since Ineos took charge of footballing operations in February, the chances of signing Nypan have only increased.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made it clear that the club will sign talented youngsters, and has lived up to this promise so far with Chido Obi, Leny Yoro and Sekou Kone among the best examples so far.
Diego Leon is set to join this list as his move from Cerro Porteno is imminent.
Therefore, United signing Nypan would be no surprise as it fits in perfectly with the recruitment strategy that the club are working under.
This could very well be signing number one for 2025, however, chances are he would need to be loaned back to Rosenborg before being completely ready to play a role under Ruben Amorim.
