Angel Gomes and Sverre Nypan latest, Manchester United to target midfield duo in 2025

Manchester United’s plans for 2025 are already coming together with two possible midfield arrivals now on the table.

Despite having signed Manuel Ugarte in the summer, there is still an appetite for midfield additions at Old Trafford – a second during the summer would also have been welcomed.

Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo are both excellent options in midfield, however outside of this pair there are problems in the position which need to be solved in the new year by Ineos.

Casemiro will likely be in his last year at Manchester United, while despite impressing against Barnsley Christian Eriksen’s future is also uncertain.

Due to this, midfield names are already being named in connection with joining United, such as Chris Rigg from Sunderland whose future looks set to be decided in January. Now, another pair are on the cards as well.

Angel Gomes and Sverre Nypan targetted

The transfer window has only been closed a matter of weeks and yet already United are compiling a list of exciting midfield targets.

One of these is Norwegian wonderkid Sverre Nypan who has long been reported to be gaining interest from United, as journalist Graeme Bailey has told United in Focus.

“We know United like him, long-standing interest and I believe that interest is still there. He is a player they are pursuing from what I am told, but United aren’t the only ones looking at him so he’s an interesting one.

“It’s different to Chris Rigg, Nypan will cost a lot less, he’s more of a project signing. Jason Wilcox and Dan Ashworth have got good eyes for young players.”

However, it is not just Nypan that United want, with academy graduate Angel Gomes also a player United are keeping an eye on as he is available for free in January.

“I am told they have got an eye on the Angel Gomes situation, he’s obviously potentially free and you could see him fitting back in the system at Old Trafford.

“I don’t think there was a mass falling out there, I think United really respected his decision to go. I wouldn’t rule it out, but there will be a lot of suitors for him.”

Adding these two names would be simply a fantastic business for United – with one being for the future and possibly even loaned to Lausanne, while the other could share minutes with Mainoo, meanwhile, it would also be an additional academy graduate in the first team.

Manchester United could sort the midfield for years to come

By adding Gomes and Nypan, United would boast quite an impressive group of midfielders in the club from academy to first team.

There are several midfield talents in the squad who have the potential to go on to start games for Manchester United – while with these additions there would be four or five already primed to dominate the midfield for the Red Devils as part of the young spine.

This is a list not even including names like Jacob Devaney or Zach Baumann which is a testament to the insane talent levels United possess right now across all age categories.

It is almost an embarrassment of riches for United, however with the unpredictability of youth football, United could be sure at least one or two of the young names would make it considering they are the best talents around.
