A new goalkeeper target has emerged for Manchester United ahead of the summer transfer window.

After Manchester United’s hugely underwhelming season, Ineos are under pressure to back Ruben Amorim over the summer with new signings.

The top priority will be adding firepower to the squad and United are closing in on Matheus Cunha with talks progressing for a £62.5m deal. Additionally, Liam Delap is a top target for Ineos.

But on the other end of the pitch, Amorim wanted to sign new goalkeepers in January and it seems he might get his wish in the summer.

Andre Onana was dropped by Amorim recently following his two mistakes against Lyon in the Europa League. In his place, Altay Bayindir failed to impress and it seems a new shot-stopper could be signed in the summer.

Man United identify Carl Rushworth as summer target

With a new goalkeeper on the shopping list for the summer, it seems Ineos have identified Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth as a potential target.

Transfer expert Graeme Bailey exclusively told United in Focus that United are interested in Rushworth.

It is understood that the 23-year-old goalkeeper will cost in the region of £5 million if United choose to make a move this summer.

While Onana will likely stay at United next season, Bayindir could leave and Rushworth could arrive as Amorim’s new No.2 goalkeeper.

Rushworth is currently the third option at Brighton behind both Bart Verbruggen and Jason Steele. But he is a highly-rated young shot-stopper.

Carl Rushworth was once targeted by Barcelona

As part of his development at Brighton, Rushworth was loaned out to non-league club Worthing for the 2019/20 season to gather experience.

The England Under-19s goalkeeper at the time earned rave reviews for his performance at the non-league club, so much so that he attracted interest from European giants.

As reported by The Mirror, Barcelona considered a shock £4 million bid for Rushworth in 2020.

Barcelona even launched a scouting mission, with club officials watching him in action in the Isthmian Premier Division.

Rushworth ended up staying at Brighton to continue his progress in their academy. He is yet to make his senior debut for the Seagulls and it seems United are ready to give him a chance to fulfil his potential at Old Trafford.
