Ruben Amorim now wants two signings in one position at Manchester United, he’s seen enough

Manchester United are in dire form right now but Ruben Amorim is unlikely to be able to strengthen his squad in January.

The January transfer window is now upon us but Manchester United fans probably aren’t getting too excited.

It’s rare that we see much incoming business from United in January windows anyway, but business will certainly be limited this month.

United invested in new signings for Erik ten Hag over the summer and the budget doesn’t appear to have much wiggle room right now.

Amorim doesn’t expect a busy January even if he would no doubt love to rip this United squad apart and build again.

United have lost five of the last six Premier League games and major changes are needed in 2025 to get back on track.

Ruben Amorim wants two signings in one position

Any incoming business would need to be offset by outgoings and it’s unclear just how United would raise funds.

Altay Bayindir is expected to leave but that departure may come at the end of the season rather than in January.

Bayindir struggled against Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup and his time at Old Trafford is surely coming to an end.

Reports suggest that Amorim doesn’t want Bayindir and isn’t even viewing him as credible competition for Andre Onana.

With that in mind, Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg reports that United want not just one but two goalkeepers.

Amorim has seen enough of Bayindir and wants to add new second and third-choice goalkeepers in 2025.

Whether one of those two goalkeeping additions can arrive in January is unclear but Amorim certainly wants to improve that area of the pitch.

Goalkeepers linked with Manchester United

United have been linked with a number of goalkeepers of late

Reports back in September suggested that United are eyeing Sunderland’s Anthony Patterson as a potential signing.

Patterson would help United in terms of homegrown quotas and has impressed in the Championship.

Another Championship stopper was linked just before Christmas with United targeting Leeds United’s Illan Meslier.

The Frenchman has endured some ups and downs at Elland Road but has been on United’s radar for a while.

The most high-profile rumour surrounds a raid on Brighton and Hove Albion with United fancying Bart Verbruggen.

The Dutch international would surely be a candidate to be first-choice at United rather than second or third having already shown his talent in the Premier League.

United appear to be looking at a number of goalkeeping options and whilst other areas need attention too, new stoppers appear to be at the forefront of Amorim’s mind.
