Benjamin Sesko had a strong debut season with Manchester United, but there are signs he is going to take 2026/27 by storm.
The Manchester United recruitment team will be feeling smug about their decision to sign Benjamin Sesko for £66 million last summer.
A decision was made to sell Rasmus Hojlund and bring in Sesko as his replacement. Not only has Sesko been an upgrade on Hojlund, but he has the potential to become world-class.
Sesko hit his goal target last season with 12 in all competitions, but he can set his sights even higher next season.

What is your message to Benjamin Sesko after his impressive debut season for United?⚽️🔥
12 goals in all competitions in 19 starts is a brilliant record⚡️
A full pre-season for Benjamin Sesko
Last summer, Sesko was signed in August, so he arrived just days before United’s Premier League season kicked off.
The Slovenian was rushed to settle in a new environment and adapt to the toughest league in football. As a result, Sesko made a slow start and was slammed as an “awkward” signing by Gary Neville.
But Sesko did turn it around and went on a scoring streak in 2026. This summer, he will have a full pre-season with United and with Slovenia failing to reach the World Cup, he should be rested and ready to go for 2026/27.
There has been a lot said about Sesko’s attitude and desire to improve, and he can spend the summer getting in top shape for what could be a brilliant season for the young striker.
Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko become second ever PL trio to score 10+ goals in debut season🔥
What an incredible achievement, how many goals should they each be aiming for in 2026/27?
Benjamin Sesko’s second-season record
Throughout Sesko’s career, he tends to improve in his second season with a club.
There is concrete proof. In his two seasons with FC Liefering, Sesko scored one goal in 15 appearances in 2019/20, and then exploded with 21 goals in 29 games in 2020/21
Sesko’s first Bundesliga season with Red Bull Salzburg resulted in five goals in 24 appearances. His second season? 16 goals in 30 games.
With Red Bull Leipzig, Sesko scored 18 goals in all competitions in 2023/24, and then 21 in 2024/25 – including four in the Champions League.
Sesko scored 12 in his first United season, expect more in 2025/26.
A full campaign under Michael Carrick
Sesko’s scoring rate at United skyrocketed after Michael Carrick’s appointment as interim head coach.
Seven of Sesko’s 11 Premier League goals came under Carrick’s tenure. Compared to Ruben Amorim, it seems Carrick knew how to get the best out of the young striker.

In 2026, no striker could match Sesko’s scoring rate in the Premier League, and that is a promising statistic heading into 2026/27, where Carrick is now the permanent head coach.
United’s easy fixtures to the season should give Sesko a golden opportunity to hit the ground running.
