Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is beginning to prove his doubters wrong. Over the past year alone he has only lost three league games.
The win over Liverpool in the FA Cup at the weekend was a big moment, and was the first time he has beaten Jurgen Klopp.
We have had a go at ranking Solskjaer’s biggest wins as United manager so far, with hopefully plenty more to come.
There are several notable victories which don’t make this list, including victories over Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham, the league win at The Etihad last season, and the group stage Champions League win over PSG.
5) Manchester United 5-0 RB Leipzig
Julian Nagelsmann waltzed into Old Trafford wearing a fancy suit and left it wishing he was covered with a bag over his head to protect his embarrassment.
Leipzig may have had the last laugh in Germany but this home victory was a mauling, and was reminiscent of old United sides at their relentless attacking best.
Marcus Rashford bagged a late hat-trick, while Mason Greenwood’s opener meant academy players scored four of United’s five goals, with Anthony Martial grabbing the other.
4) Leicester 0-2 Manchester United
For all of the detractors who argue Solskjaer cannot win when it really matters, this win is a fly in the ointment.
United went to Leicester needing to win to qualify for the Champions League and controlled the game from start to finish.
It wasn’t an electric performance like the Leipzig game, but with so much on the line, it was a game which represented so much. Solskjaer ensured his United players delivered.
This match came at the end of a long unbeaten league run to end the season, giving United a third placed finish which barely seemed possible months earlier.
3) Manchester United 3-2 Liverpool
Solskjaer has finally got one over on Jurgen Klopp after a previous defeat and two draws. The way it played out was a real treat.
Bruno Fernandes scored a dramatic late free-kick winner, after goals from Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford. It was a win which showed how far we have come, once again showing United are capable of winning big games.
United have now leapfrogged Liverpool in the league and after knocking them out of the cup, it felt like a big moment. To do it in such style was the icing on the cake.
2) Manchester United 2-0 Manchester City
The win over City back in March gets the edge over the Liverpool tie purely because of the fans in attendance at Old Trafford. Who can forget the scenes as the stadium erupted when Scott McTominay sealed the win with a late strike?
It has been a bitter blow that fans have not been back since. This was a strong attacking and defensive performance, with Anthony Martial scoring an impressive opener from a Fernandes assist, before McTominay put the game beyond doubt.
This was also the third time in the space of four months Solskjaer had beaten Pep Guardiola. That might just be a record.
1) PSG 1-3 Manchester United
Where else can you go for number one than the away win over PSG which earned Solskjaer the job.
2-0 down from the first leg, an injury hit United lined up with a three-man midfield of Fred, Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira and beat PSG in their own backyard.
Romelu Lukaku scored two in his biggest contribution for the club, before Marcus Rashford’s nerves of steel held up to net an aggregate clinching winner past Gianluigi Buffon with an injury-time penalty. The celebrations were spectacular and it was this victory which earned Solskjaer the job.
