Manchester United fans are excited by the signing of Tynan Thompson from Premier League rivals Tottenham.

Last season, Michael Carrick made it clear that Manchester United wanted to sign a left winger to bolster their squad, but not many expected Tynan Thompson to be the target of choice.

With Marcus Rashford set to stay, United opted to sign a young, exciting talent rather than a ready-made first-team star. A £4 million deal for Thompson is what followed.

Thompson was included in first-team training this week after his arrival, and United fans are already excited by the new prospect at Carrington.

Manchester United fans react to Tynan Thompson deal

United fans, via TalkingPoints, have been talking about Thompson’s transfer, and the general message to Ineos is that supporters are happy with the transfer strategy this summer.

Fans have drawn comparisons between the Thompson deal and Ayden Heaven, who also arrived from a North London club for a small fee and quickly became a first-team regular.

Others pointed out that Ineos’ transfer strategy is similar to that of rivals Manchester City, and supporters are happy that the transfer business this summer has been sensible, not desperate.

United clearly keen to replicate the success City have had in recruiting some of the countries best young talent. City selling the likes of Brahim Diaz, Lavia, Delap, McAtee, Harwood Bellis, Yan Couto, Angelino…..the list goes on…. that’s allowed them to spend pretty much whatever they want summer after summer without losing key assets. I know very little about him but it does sound like another exciting signing.I think all the signings have been well bought this window and we’ve walked away when transfers got silly ie,Anderson,Fernández.I like the way we’ve improved our buying strategies.but we still need more.

Tynan Thompson is a low-risk gamble for Manchester United

Thompson arrives at United as a very exciting prospect, and one that Tottenham fans are sad to see leave.

The 18-year-old has an extremely high talent ceiling and it’s now up to Carrick and Co. to try and nurture his development in Manchester.

But there is very little risk attached to the deal for Ineos. If all goes according to plan, Thompson will develop into a superstar at United with Rashford as his mentor.

Having Rashford, Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu as left-wing options means that Thompson won’t be relied upon, but instead can develop at his own pace.

Even if Thompson struggles to fulfil his potential, his £4m transfer fee is minimal and there is huge resale value regardless.
