Manchester United wearing blue is usually a sign of good things to come.
Manchester United have launched their new 2026/27 away kit with one month remaining until the new Premier League season begins.
The Red Devils will wear the new blue away kit in the upcoming pre-season friendlies against Rosenborg and Atletico Madrid.
United’s new blue kit is inspired by the adidas shirt that was worn only three times between 1986 and 1988 – interestingly, all three matches were away to Southampton.
It is certainly not the first blue kit that United have worn, and throughout history, it has been a colour that brings European trophies back to Old Trafford.

Manchester United have won two European trophies wearing blue
The 2026/27 season marks United’s return to the Champions League for the first time since 2023/24.
Michael Carrick will lead United back to the highest pedigree of European football, and wearing blue is certainly a good omen.
In fact, two of United’s European trophy wins have come when the side wore blue in the final.
1968 European Cup
Manchester United became the first English club to win a European trophy when they beat Benfica 4-1 in the 1968 final.
The match was played in front of a crowd of over 92,000 at Wembley Stadium. Despite United’s “home” advantage of playing in England, the Red Devils actually wore blue on the day.
In order to avoid a colour clash with Benfica, both sides agreed to wear their away strips for the final. United in blue, Benfica in white.
When Sir Bobby Charlton lifted the trophy for United, he did it while wearing blue.
2017 Europa League
United’s one and only Europa League trophy came in 2017 under the management of Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils beat Ajax 2-0 in Stockholm with Paul Pogba and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scoring the goals.
Once again, there would have been a colour clash if United wore their red home strip, so the Red Devils wore blue while Ajax kept to their traditional red and white.
