Ruben Amorim’s verdict on Man Utd youngster is clear, snubbing against Newcastle spoke volumes

Monday night saw Ruben Amorim forced into utilising a make-shift midfield, but he had superior options available to him.

Against a midfield as dynamic and dangerous as Newcastle’s, Manchester United were always set for disaster when starting Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

Gary Neville slammed the United duo, declaring they should never play together, with a combined age of 64, leading to Newcastle’s 2-0 win over United.

The disastrous pairing was criticised by fans as well, with the introduction of Kobbie Mainoo the game completely changed with United far better.

However, despite Eriksen’s struggles, he saw out the entire 90 minutes – which spoke volumes over Ruben Amorim’s verdict on one Carrington prospect.

Toby Collyer snubbed by Ruben Amorim

Amorim’s options in midfield were slim on Monday night, with Manuel Ugarte and Bruno Fernandes both suspended.

Yet despite this, Toby Collyer was not even given a chance by Amorim, as the 20-year-old sat on the bench, no doubt wondering when he would ever get a chance considering how bad Eriksen was.

The most disappointing part of being snubbed for Collyer will surely be that heading into this season, he looked destined to be Erik ten Hag’s breakout talent.

Collyer’s freakish work-rate should also be lending itself well to Amorim, but the Portuguese head coach is yet to be tempted to use the former Brighton starlet.

Collyer has not played a minute of first-team football since September 17th when he shined against Barnsley, and this latest disappointment surely suggests only one thing can happen in January.

Manchester United must push for Collyer’s January loan

With Collyer not getting a look in so far under Amorim, a January loan may be on the cards, with interest from Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester.

Leicester have already approached United over potentially taking Collyer on loan in January – and it would be an incredible move for him.

Van Nistelrooy is a fan of Collyer, as were the entire Ten Hag coaching staff, and this could mean he is afforded the chance to play regular Premier League football.

Moving to Leicester would be crucial for his development, and Collyer turns 21 later this week, so it is pivotal he is playing regular football going forward.
