Ruud van Nistelrooy wants Leicester to sign ‘freakish’ Man Utd star in January – it’s a perfect fit

New Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is now looking toward Manchester United for a January addition.

Having been at the club as assistant manager for four months before departing upon Ruben Amorim’s arrival, Ruud van Nistelrooy probably has a great insight into the quality within the squad at Manchester United.

Due to this, the chances of the club legend returning for a player after being named Leicester boss were always high.

Ahead of the January transfer window, multiple young United players have been linked with a loan exit.

Ethan Wheatley has several suitors including Wrexham, while clubs across the Championship are lining up to sign Harry Amass. Dan Gore and Ethan Ennis are two others rumoured to be on the loan list.

Now, Van Nistelrooy is looking at bringing a “freakish” 20-year-old talent to the King Power.

Ruud van Nistelrooy wants Manchester United gem Toby Collyer on loan

One player yet to make the impact expected this season is Toby Collyer – who had been tipped as this season’s breakout star during preseason as he looked at home in the first-team.

However, Erik ten Hag only gave him a few cameos and a start at left-back against Barnsley. Since Ten Hag’s exit Collyer has been injured and now a loan looks on the table.

According to The Sun, Van Nistelrooy is keen to take the midfielder who was once described as the “best in the country” to Leicester on loan.

After a dream 3-1 start to life as the Foxes’ boss, now Van Nistelrooy has identified where he needs additions and midfield has come up.

The report claims Van Nistelrooy is planning to use his contacts at Old Trafford to sign Collyer on a loan. The Dutchman believes United’s starlet could become a key asset in his battle against relegation.

For Van Nistelrooy to be backing Collyer to shine in the Premier League is a sign of how highly the previous United regime rated Collyer.

Does Collyer fit in for Leicester City?

If Collyer heads on loan, United must choose the correct destination to allow him to develop as a footballer and also get regular minutes.

Given Van Nistelrooy knows Collyer so well and vice-versa, the move would surely result in plenty of game time and opportunities as well as a stylistic fit for the England U21 international’s style of play.

Additionally, when comparing Collyer to the current crop of midfielders Van Nistelrooy has, there is no reason he can’t be starting over them. The fact Amorim’s verdict on Collyer is unknown as well will only push him toward the loan exit where he can truly prove himself.

Leicester fans would be pleased to hear that Collyer has been compared to N’Golo Kante in the past – a legend at the King Power.

A loan to a side like Leicester in the Premier League would do wonders for Collyer and so this is one link we are very hopeful of.

With only three weeks until the window opens, we don’t have long to find out.
