What Ruben Amorim shared in common with his five Man Utd managerial predecessors in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era
Ruben Amorim’s position at Manchester United became untenable after his latest actions, with Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe finally dropping the axe on his reign.
The former Red Devils head coach endured a mixed 2025-26 Premier League season, with United in sixth place in the table at the time of his departure.
Amorim’s relationship with the United hierarchy fractured in recent weeks amid the Red Devils briefly pivoting from the former Sporting CP manager’s preferred tactics.
Ruben Amorim’s BIGGEST MISTAKE at Manchester United was ________________
✍️ Fill in the blank…
According to ESPN, a United insider insisted that Amorim shared a similar “flaw” to other former Red Devils managers who followed in Sir Alex Ferguson’s footsteps.
“When you consider each of the managers we appointed post-Sir Alex, they all had some kind of personality flaw,” the unnamed Red Devils source told Mark Ogden.
“They were either too cautious, too inflexible, too combative or simply not up to it, but if you rolled them all into one, you might end up with somebody who ticked all the boxes.”
The next Man Utd manager after Ruben Amorim must solve the issue behind the ‘personality flaw’ at Old Trafford
Whether it is Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal or Amorim and Erik ten Hag, the behind-the-scenes stories about the former United managers are incredibly telling.
Amorim’s United managerial run saw the former Sporting boss lash out with emotionally charged reactions every other week during his 14-month reign.
The Portuguese coach could not escape labels like ‘stubborn’ due to how Amorim took the approach of ‘my way or the highway’ with his tactics to the United team.
Whoever follows Amorim and Co at Old Trafford faces a tall order and must break the reputation being applied to United managers in the post-Ferguson era.
