Jose Mourinho’s predictions for what Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos would offer Ruben Amorim at Manchester United have aged poorly after Monday’s dramatic news.

Ruben Amorim’s tenure as Manchester United manager has ended in brutal fashion, with the 40-year-old Portuguese coach abruptly sacked from the Premier League club.

The former United manager had been publicly backed by the likes of Red Devils co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos earlier in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

However, Ratcliffe and Co finally withdrew their support for the outspoken Amorim and Ineos are now back to the drawing board over their long-term strategy.

Amorim’s reign as United manager lasted only 14 months after the ex-Sporting CP head coach left his native homeland and arrived in England to replace Erik ten Hag.

What former Man Utd manager Jose Mourinho said about Ruben Amorim under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos regime

Ruben Amorim endured a turbulent 2024-25 Premier League campaign after he succeeded Erik ten Hag at Manchester United back in 2024.

The Red Devils limped to 15th place in the Premier League table and United suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the 2025 Europa League final in Spain.

Despite the turmoil of the 2024-25 season, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos showed their backing for Amorim with a spending spree in the 2024 summer market.

Following United’s Europa League loss to Tottenham, Jose Mourinho felt that Ineos would provide the “time and conditions” that Amorim would need at the club.

“From what I read, the impact [of losing Europa League final] on Man United, of course, it is huge in the sense of how many years Man Utd is not involved in any European competition,” he told Sky Sports in May 2025.

“But at the same time, it looks like they are supporting Ruben. They are giving him time and conditions to go forward.”

There could be an argument that Ineos did provide the ‘right conditions’ for Amorim with their range of new signings, including Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.

However, Amorim’s remarks against United that ultimately led to his sacking showed that the support was not fully there when it came to the January transfer window.

A visibly frustrated Amorim slammed the behind-the-scenes figures at Old Trafford after United’s 1-1 draw against Leeds United in Sunday’s Premier League clash.

The former United manager had seen his first-team squad hit with injuries to key players and had lost other talent to the 2025 editions of the AFCON tournament.

Mourinho’s belief that Ineos and Ratcliffe would provide the right time and conditions for Amorim only led to the eventual rug-pull from the feet of his fellow Portuguese compatriot.
