Manchester United have reportedly made three key decisions after Darren Fletcher took charge of the Red Devils following Ruben Amorim’s sacking from the club.
Ruben Amorim was axed as Manchester United manager on Monday morning after the 40-year-old Portuguese coach lashed out against the Red Devils’ hierarchy.
Ruben Amorim SACKED – What is your INSTANT REACTION?
The former United manager made his position at Old Trafford unsustainable after Amorim’s scathing comments in his post-match press conference on Sunday.
Amorim’s reign at United lasted only 14 months after he left his role at Sporting CP and replaced former Ajax and Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag at the club in 2024.
However, the former Sporting CP manager took charge of his last Red Devils match at the weekend, with United drawing 1-1 with Leeds United at Elland Road.

1. Man Utd to confirm a new caretaker manager after Ruben Amorim’s sacking
Darren Fletcher will now lead the Manchester United first-team squad at Turf Moor for the Premier League clash against Burnley on Wednesday evening.
BBC Sport dropped a ‘significant update’ on United’s next steps under the Ineos regime after Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties at the Premier League club.
What are your hopes and expectations with Darren Fletcher in charge at Man Utd?
Darren Fletcher replaces Ruben Amorim as interim boss
According to the news outlet, it is now believed that United ‘hope to appoint a caretaker’ manager for the remainder of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
The Red Devils previously installed Ruud van Nistelrooy as caretaker manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked as United manager and ahead of Amorim’s arrival.
2. Darren Fletcher’s role at Man Utd in the foreseeable future after temporarily replacing Ruben Amorim
Darren Fletcher was appointed Manchester United Under-18s head coach last summer and has been working behind the scenes with the youth academy.
However, the 41-year-old ex-United technical director’s involvement with the Red Devils first team will be similar to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s run as caretaker manager.
Who do YOU want as the next Man Utd manager?
What traits are you looking for?
BBC Sport reported that Fletcher is not in the running for United’s picks for a caretaker manager to take over at Old Trafford for the next six months.
United are expected to plug the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign in a similar way to Ralf Rangnick’s interim managerial spell at United in the 2021-22 season.
3. Man Utd’s succession plan for Ruben Amorim after the former Sporting CP head coach’s sacking
Manchester United fans and the football punditry world are now speculating over who will be the next permanent managerial appointment at the club in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Amorim’s sacking at United now leaves Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe with a major task of finding a suitable replacement for the Premier League club in the near future.
BBC Sport has claimed that United do not plan to ‘appoint a permanent manager’ until the end of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign and going into the summer.
Amorim’s successor at United will be in their role ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League season, following the caretaker manager’s run in the current campaign.
