Carrick had taken charge of United for three matches during the 2021-22 campaign after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked as Red Devils head coach in 2021.
Ralf Rangnick was installed as interim manager for the remainder of the 2021-22 Premier League season before Erik ten Hag succeeded Solskjaer permanently.

However, the news outlet added that Carrick has been viewed as a ‘serious candidate’ for the Premier League club alongside current favourite Solskjaer.
