Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been floated as an option to replace Ruben Amorim as the new head coach of Manchester United.

Manchester United made the bold decision to sack Ruben Amorim on Monday morning following his comments made towards the club hierarchy.

Despite initially presenting Amorim as a long-term project manager, he lasted just 14 months in the job before being dismissed.

According to reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to returning to United just over four years after he was sacked by the Red Devils.

Unlike any other managers who were sacked post-Ferguson, Solskjaer was allowed a farewell interview and was welcomed back to the club at any time. It seems he is ready to accept that proposal.

During his time as manager, Solskjaer was loved by his players and was naturally adored by the fanbase.

His return to Old Trafford would be welcomed with open arms, despite him ending his time as manager without a trophy.

According to The Guardian, senior players such as Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire would welcome Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back as a temporary appointment.

The report adds that sporting director Jason Wilcox, who fell out with Ruben Amorim in his final days as head coach, views Solskjaer as a “prime candidate”.

United fans will fondly remember when Solskjaer last stepped in as a caretaker manager following Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

Incredibly, Solskjaer boasted a 74% win rate as caretaker manager, winning 14 of his first 19 games in charge of the Red Devils, earning him a permanent appointment.

Solskjaer was also manager under the Glazer ownership, and would likely receive better backing from Ineos and a proper footballing structure now in place.
