Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos might have bitten off more than they can chew thanks to the major obstacle in their way in replacing Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

The Ineos-led Red Devils regime and Sir Jim Ratcliffe ended their association with Ruben Amorim on Monday morning after sacking the former Red Devils boss.

Amorim was Ineos’ first permanent appointment as Manchester United manager, having made the call to sack Erik ten Hag in the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The 40-year-old Portuguese has now met the same fate as fellow former United head coach Erik ten Hag and the Red Devils are without a permanent manager.

Amorim’s dismissal from United came on the back of the outspoken former Sporting CP manager dropping a swipe at the Red Devils’ hierarchy at the weekend.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos’ Ruben Amorim replacement pick at Man Utd won’t come easy

Ineos might be in control of football operations at Old Trafford, but the elephant in the room remains Manchester United’s long-standing controversial majority owners.

The Glazers dwarf Sir Jim Ratcliffe in terms of ownership structure and control at the Premier League club and Ineos’ succession pick for Ruben Amorim faces a curveball.

Mark Ogden wrote for ESPN that the club’s owners will ‘definitely’ have an ‘input this time’ over the long-term replacement for former United manager Amorim.

He added that United co-chairman Joel Glazer will be expected to have ‘his say’ alongside Ratcliffe, club CEO Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox.

Joel Glazer’s input, no matter how much Ineos and Ratcliffe try to put on appeasing public faces, will be a spanner in the works for the appointment of a new manager.

Not only is there sheer discontent from United fans over the Glazers since their 2005 takeover, but their interference has reportedly occurred before with United managers.

The Glazer family’s major Man Utd manager call from the last decade at Old Trafford is a warning for Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos

Mark Ogden cited United insiders about ‘senior figures’ who had originally wanted ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to become the club’s manager back in 2016.

However, it is believed that the Glazer family ultimately decided to choose Jose Mourinho as the replacement for Louis van Gaal ahead of Mauricio Pochettino.

According to the ESPN report, former United and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho was selected by the Glazers based on his ‘track record and personality.’

Mourinho wasn’t necessarily a bad appointment by any stretch of the imagination, considering his League Cup and Europa League triumphs in his debut season.

However, the point is that when the Glazers wanted a certain candidate for United, the Red Devils’ majority owners ultimately had the final say on the managerial pick.

Ineos and Ratcliffe’s desire to bin off Amorim could come back to haunt them if Joel Glazer decides to exert his influence over the proceedings for managerial picks.
