Ruben Amorim takes charge of his first Manchester game on Sunday and expectations are understandably high.

It has been nearly two full weeks since the new head coach arrived at Carrington for the very first time and it will be beginning to feel like home.

Ruben Amorim looks the part of a Manchester United head coach and has talked the talk. However, he also needs to walk to walk and that starts when United face Ipswich Town on Sunday in game one.

Reports from Carrington are that Amorim is happy with the squad and how training has gone in week one, with United players ‘blown away’ by Amorim.

Despite only having 11 senior United players in training to begin with, this number will have steadily risen over the week as United players return from international duty.

Ruben Amorim’s two-year rule at Sporting Lisbon outlined

Amorim arrives as a record-breaking Sporting coach, while also boasting a trophy cabinet of six pieces of silverware, which he will want to add to at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s win percentage at Sporting speaks for itself, but now it has emerged that back in January 2024, Amorim made some boldly ambitions admissions.

“If we don’t win titles, I’ll leave on my own”, Amorim proclaimed to Portuguese outlet B24 confidently months before Sporting lifted the Liga Portugal.

“It is not possible for two years to pass without titles at a big club like Sporting.”

Of course, Amorim is now coaching a club which has gone nearly 12 years without lifting the Premier League and it will be far more difficult than leading Sporting to the league crown in Portugal.

However, taking these comments at face value, we cannot help but be excited by his ambition which gives us a belief that Amorim will end to drought which has been ongoing since Sir Alex Ferguson retired.

Amorim set for baptism of fire at Manchester United

Amorim will be set for a baptism of fire at United as he is taking charge for the busiest period of the season and it all kicks off on Sunday against Kieran McKenna.

Speaking on the Overlap this week, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes predicted United to win against Ipswich. Neville even predicted a Ferguson-esque late winner – which would be a fitting start to Amorim’s career.

Following Ipswich, Amorim will come up against Sean Dyche’s Everton side and Arsenal with a struggling Mikel Arteta. Another chance to embarrass Pep Guardiola will also present itself for Amorim, with the Citizens on a four-game losing streak.

The Athletic have ranked United’s run of games before Christmas as the eighth toughest in the Premier League, with an average opposition difficulty of 88.8.
