Manchester United target Ruben Amorim has unique place in the hearts of Sporting fans – with good reason.
Manchester United want to bring in Ruben Amorim as replacement for Erik ten Hag, who was fired earlier this week.
Ten Hag’s sacking was inevitable after a poor run of form, and Manchester United fans are searching for a man who can inspire the team back to winning ways.
A huge task awaits Ruben Amorim, yet he has shown in Portugal that he is not daunted by the weight of history.

Amorim broke Sporting record
Ruben Amorim has won two league titles as Sporting manager, in 2020/21 and most recently in 2023/24.
If that does not scream ‘dominance’ over the past five years, let us apply some very historical context to Sporting’s success.
Prior to Sporting’s most recent title win last season, no manager had won two titles with the club since the early 1950s.
This was a man named Randolph Galloway, an Englishman born back in 1896, who had playing days with Derby, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham among others, before retiring in 1929.
Galloway then took up a managerial career in Spain, Switzerland, and even Costa Rica, winning three league titles with Sporting in 1951, 1952, and 1953.
Sporting have won 20 league titles in their history, a distance behind Portuguese rivals Benfica (38) and Porto (30).
Yet no Sporting manager since Galloway has been able to win multiple league titles, until Amorim came along.
Amorim’s most recent title triumph was last season, in which Sporting won the league by a 10-point margin.
For most Sporting fans, Amorim is the only manager they have witnessed winning multiple league titles for the club, making him a modern day legend.
Ruben Amorim latest
Manchester United are looking to bring in Ruben Amorim as quickly as possible, yet this could prove a little complicated.
Amorim is still under contract to Sporting, and he spoke after their win on Tuesday night, to admit his future is still unclear.
United are keen on bringing Amorim’s coaching staff in with him too, with a big overhaul awaiting at Old Trafford if he is appointed.
Sporting fans are desperate not to lose Amorim, and their admiration makes perfect sense given what he has achieved, in such a short space of time.
